Historic Gage Chevrolet Sign gets a Facelift

In 2012 the Gage Chevrolet sign was very deteriorated after having been up for nearly 50 years. The neon sign with porcelain panels was constructed in 1965 by VanHouten Electric Sign and was 34 feet long. We had the pleasure of restoring this original porcelain neon Chevrolet sign. We removed the sign stripped it down to the original steel frame, repaired the structure, cleaned and repaired all the porcelain panels, repaired / replaced all the neon and put it all back together. The sign is now wired to meet the Michigan electrical code standards. It was big undertaking and took us an entire month to complete. The neon was produced and repaired by Joe Bulthuis of Neon Leon, one of the last great glass benders.
